It’s the year end, and what better way to spend quality time with the kids than at the movies? From magical beasts and singing critters to a brave band of rebels, there’s no shortage of family friendly entertainment on the big screen.

Here’s the low-down on what to watch this holiday season.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
Based on the book by J.K. Rowling, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is set 70 years before the events in the Harry Potter books. Magizoologist Newt Scamander is on a quest to document magical creatures in the wizarding world. While on a stop-over in New York, he misplaces his magical case which causes some of his creatures to escape, threatening to expose the wizarding world. With its dark themes and disturbing scenes, we reckon it’s more suitable for older children.

Moana, the headstrong daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe, sets off on a daring quest to find the demi-god Maui. Amid the dazzling animation and wonderful musical numbers lies a heartwarming story of friendship, bravery and self-discovery. Moana follows Frozen and Tangled in its depiction of multi-dimensional female characters, truly a refreshing change from the damsels in distress of Disney films of yore. It’s by DreamWorks, so you can expect laugh-out-loud jokes that will put a smile on everyone’s faces.
