The auditions for ‘Happy Sparks’ inaugural talent search, ‘i-Love Singing’ and ‘i-Love Performing’ Competitions, kicked off over the weekend on 13 and 14 August at Nex Shopping Mall.
The on-site registrations saw a good turnout of many young talents aged 12 and below who were not only good at their craft, but also extremely comfortable being in the spotlight. Most of those who joined said they have been dancing for many years and enjoy it.
“I took lessons when I was six but I have been dancing since I was two,” said nine-year-old Nicole Wong, a student at Pei Hwa Primary School.
For Nikita Sarah Nitishkumar, also nine, she hopes to become a dancer when she grows up and enjoys jazz, ballet and tap dancing.
Her father, Mr Nitish, decided to send her to dance lessons when he saw the interest she had in dance and performing. However, he emphasised that the experience was more important than the results.
“I think it’s a platform for young children to get an experience to do what they like. I think it is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their skills and abilities. It also gives them some confidence to participate in public. I want her to enjoy this opportunity that has been given so that she can showcase her talent and in the process also understand the value of arts. Whether it is dance or singing, I think when children learn it early in life, it is going to help them when they grow up to know that life is more than just education. Life [consists] of so many more things like happiness and fulfilment.”
The Finals of the ‘i-Love Singing Competition’ and ‘i-Love Performing Competition’ will be held on 13 November at the Happy Sparks edutainment event at the Singapore Expo Hall 4B. For more details, check out www.happysparks.com.
