1. Kode It, Sparkies! 2019 is a holiday camp and hackathon ("the Event") jointly organised by Kodecoon and Times Experience, a subsidiary of Times Publishing Limited ("Organisers").
  2. The Event aims to drive technical and design creativity in our next generation adolescents and capitalises on solving potential national concerns and portraying a solution through a web display. Participants are challenged to a phase of innovation and the familiarisation of programming languages.
  3. The Event aims to achieve the following objectives for the participants:
    1. ADAPT - To adapt in the digital age by embracing technology.
    2. TRANSFORM- To transform by picking up programming skills and sharpening problem-solving capability.
    3. BREAKTHROUGH- To create technological breakthrough that is impactful and relevant to the society.

  1. To join the Event, the participant must:
    1. currently be a student in primary 3 to 6 (or an equivalent grade as stated in the reference table below) residing in Singapore for year 2019.
    2. have the permission of a parent or guardian.
  2. Students from international schools in Singapore may participate.

    1. The registration period to enter the Event is from 15 November 2018 to 1 March 2019.
    2. Early bird registration closes on 4 January 2019.
    3. Registration can only be submitted online through https://www.goguru.com.sg/kode-it-sparkies.

For the registration to be valid:
  1. The registration form must be completed in full, including name of participant, contact details and all other required information.
  2. Payment of registration fee must be made in full during registration.
  3. The parent/guardian must have a Times Connect account to proceed with the above registration steps.

    1. Registration fee for each participant is as follows:-
15 November 2018 – 4 January 2019
5 January 2019 – 1 March 2019

Prices are quoted in Singapore Dollars, and are inclusive of 7% GST.

  1. Payment of registration fee must be made in full during registration.
  2. The parent/guardian must have a Times Connect account to proceed with the registration steps.



    1. Laptops are required for the holiday camp. All learning activities will be conducted on BSD Launchbox, a web-based development platform.
    2. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop and charger on 18 and 19 March 2019 (day 1 and 2). Loan of laptops are available upon request (additional charges apply).
    3. Participants do not need to bring their own laptops on 23 March 2019.
    4. The holiday camp is scheduled to take place at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, 22 Orange Grove Rd, Singapore 258350 on 18 and 19 March 2019 and Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore, 101 Siloso Rd, Singapore 098970 on 23 March 2019.
    5. Participants are required to be present on all days of the holiday camp

    1. Instructors will assign and group the participants into teams with specific roles to compete at the hackathon on day 3 of the holiday camp.
    2. All participants will be required to present at the hackathon.
    3. The theme of the hackathon is "Smart Nation". Participants will be briefed on the full details of the problem solving component during the holiday camp.

    1. The hackathon will be held on 23 March 2019 at Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore, 101 Siloso Rd, Singapore 098970.
    2. All participants must bring along any form of photo ID for registration purposes.
    3. Each team will present their ideas and solutions, using a website that the team has designed and built on BSD LaunchBox, an educational platform taught to the participants during the holiday camp.
    4. Laptops will be provided to all teams.
    5. Selected teams will make their presentations on the stage to the live audience at the event.
    6. Our panel of judges will pick the best team as the overall winner of the hackathon.
    7. The decision of the judges for the hackathon will be final and no correspondence will be entertained.

    1. Photographs and videos of participants may be taken at various stages of the Event. By entering the Event, participants have given their consent to be featured in these photos and videos which may be used for marketing purposes by the Organisers.
    2. By entering the Event, participants agree that the content of their speeches may be used and reproduced in any form by the Organisers..

    1. Each participant in the overall winning team will receive a certificate and prizes from our kind sponsors.
    2. The Organisers reserve the right to abandon or withdraw any aspect of the prizes at any time.
    3. All prizes are not transferable or exchangeable for cash or otherwise. If for any reason any prize becomes unavailable, the Organisers may substitute an alternative prize of equivalent value without notice.
    4. By claiming the prizes, all winners give consent to the Organisers to use their names, photographs and videos for publicity purposes.

    1. The personal information provided to enter the Event will be held by the Organisers and will be used for the purposes of administering the Event.
    2. By providing the Organisers with their personal data, all participants agree that the Organisers may collect, use and disclose their personal data for purposes in accordance with the Privacy Policy and the Personal Data Protection Act 2012.
    3. The Organisers reserve the right to contact participants and associated persons using information obtained in relation to the operations of the Event.
    4. By entering the Event, participants consent to the use of their personal data by Times Publishing Limited and its subsidiaries (including Times Experience and Times The Bookshop) as well as Kodecoon for marketing and promotional purposes.

    1. The Organisers shall not be liable for any loss, damage, personal injury or death suffered or sustained arising out of or in connection with the Event and the taking or using of the prizes.
    2. Where goods or services are supplied by third parties, the Organisers shall not warrant the quality of those goods and/or services or the suitability for your particular circumstances.

    1. The Organisers’ decisions on all matters regarding the Event are final and no correspondence will be entertained.
    2. The Organisers reserve the right to change, abandon or withdraw any aspect of the prizes at any time.
    3. The judges’ decision is final, and no correspondence will be entertained.
    4. Participants who breach these Terms and Conditions are subject to disqualification.
    5. The Organisers reserve the right to extend, cancel or amend any component of the Event at any time.
